Do you have that time on the calendar that you look forward to each year? Maybe it’s a family vacation, a trip to volunteer or some other tradition.
For our team at the Chimney Safety Institute of America, it’s one of those kinds of weeks this week at our Technology Center, and it goes by the name of Sweeps Week at CSIA.
An annual tradition for at least 10 years running, Sweeps Week brings chimney sweep volunteers to our 10,000 square foot facility outside of Indianapolis to complete projects and maintenance that upgrade our facility.
Sweeps are here from Michigan, New York, Kansas and South Carolina, to name just a handful of the states expected to be represented.
This year, the Sweeps Week team is building a masonry chimney on the Tech Center grounds that will include an example of a wood-fired oven. (Can you say wood-fired pizza anyone?)
The project is just another example of how the support we receive during Sweeps Week helps us better train CSIA Certified Chimney Sweeps, because we can use this new chimney to give job-site-style experiences to new sweeps, allowing them to make learning mistakes at our place rather than in the homes of their customers.
“Beyond the masonry chimney project, this group of more than 20 volunteers will provide maintenance to the other chimneys we use for training purposes,” says CSIA Director of Communications and Marketing Melissa Heeke. “We have a great time sharing a week with these selfless individuals who give their time to strengthen our entire industry.”
Sweeps Week is an open event and chimney pros are welcome to visit and participate regardless of affiliation. Visit the Sweeps Week at CSIA Facebook page to get in touch.
